I make Christmas gifts because I am poor.

Homemade gifts are awesome. Right? Well, if they are cool gifts and not lame crocheted tissue box covers or really bad fruit cake. Who am I kidding? Fruit cake is always bad. I have started on a few projects in the last week. I am hoping the recipients of these gifts enjoy using them as much as I enjoyed making them. Here are a few examples:

Crocheted hats

Here are some lotion bars. Well, lotion "rounds". They are made of Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Beeswax and essential oils. These are Grapefruit scented.

I think that both are great gift ideas. I will say, even though I do enjoy making gifts, my hands hurt from crocheting :) And, I am usually up way after the kids are sleeping so I can keep up with it all. I am having fun though.

Any of you making your gifts this year? If so, please share! I would love to see your ideas.

  1. First of all, my mom makes an awesome fruitcake. Seriously, some of my friends request it. Ok, now that's settled ;) I love the hats and lotion bars! My problem is I'm too broke to afford the supplies right now. Oh well, that's life :)

  2. Sarah, I guess I just don't like fruit cake. I am not a fan of weird candy fruit and such. But, I am sure your mom makes wonderful cake :) Yes, supplies can be pricey, but I have done a lot of comparing with supplies and have found good deals. The worst part is paying for shipping. It's crazy these days!! My hats are made with acrylic yard, so that isn't too expensive.

  3. Gorgeous Jess! A gift that we are giving the grandparents this year is taking a big stack of crafts + a few pictures and a letter to Staples, for like $3 they will spiral it and make a nice little book. Plus it weeds out some of the clutter that comes if you have crafters, like I do. :) Bonus!

I was just looking on Etsy for some similar hats, they go for like $15 - 40. So regardless of what supplies are, this is def a great money saver if you have the know how! These are beautiful.

  4. You are so talented! And patient. I'm too spazzy to crochet, or knit, or to sew very well for that matter...and sign me up for a lotion bar! Love that!
